Kira “Kii” LaCroix

Academic and Professional Background
A senior Journalist with a minor in Sports Administration at Howard University, Kira’s academic work has focused on visual storytelling, reporting, and media analysis, with a particular interest in how culture and representation shape modern narratives.
Professionally, she’s worked across sports media, broadcast production, digital reporting, and marketing communications; experience from producing live broadcasts to managing social and editorial content. She has seen first-hand how storytelling functions as both information and influence at scale.

Sociopolitical Ideology
Kira’s sociopolitical ideology is shaped by her background as a fomer multi-sport high school athlete with an intentional entry into sports journalism to center student-atheletes’ voices. She believes athletes of any education level —particularly at the collegiate level—deserve recognition not only for performance, but for the discipline, labor, and emotional demands required to juggle academics, sport, and public scrutiny.
She believes media plays a critical roles in shaping public understanding of race, gender, class, and power, no matter the concequence of equity, accountability, and cultural awareness. She values media that represents marginalized communities and journalism that challenges dominant narratives rather than reinforcing them with regurggated information.
With this, she also believes journalism should be practiced by trained professionals, ensuring information is communicated clearly and responsibily. To Kira, credibility, research, and ethical storytelling are essential for prevention of misinterpretation or circulation of misinformation in any form of media exchange.
Ideology Expressed Through Journalism
Kira expresses her ideology throughresisting trend driven journalism and prioritizing community voices that are often overlooked. She is intentional about highlighting athletes and programs in their natural setting int order to deliver authentic and less traditionally mainsteam audiences, like the inclusion of tennis and golf.
Rather than simply presenting a surface level issue, she aims to examine power structures at their core and generate sound cultural commentary and community solutions: giving a voice to those that are harmed or missing.
Kira LaCroix’s goal is not persuasion, but rather clarity and accountability.
